Washington Ag August 28, 2007 A sales closing date for federal crop insurance for some Pacific Northwest crops is coming up later this week. Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional office of USDA's Risk Management Agency explains.
Seufer: "Coming up here in early fall is canola and rapeseed is August 31 and that is for all fall planted types. We have onions, which is also August 31 for the fall planted types for Umatilla and Walla Walla counties only.
After August 31st the next big sales closing date will be October 1st for such crops as mint with winter coverage, which is now a permanent program available in additional counties, and for all wheat.

The annual event sponsored by Washington State University Extension will be at the Hamma Hamma Tree Farm just of U.S. 101 at milepost 320 on the Hood Canal. Topics to be covered include protecting homes and forests from wildfire, thinning and pruning, forest taxation, selling timber and more.
