Fruit Quality School. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
If you are a fruit grower or interested in learning more about tree fruit quality, WSU has the program for you.
KUPFERMAN: I am pleased to be a part of a new program that Washington State University has which we're calling the Washington State University Tree Fruit Quality School. It's a one day school on August 7th in Ellensburg.
That's Dr. Gene Kupferman.
KUPFERMAN: It's directed at giving information to the post harvest tree fruit industry as well as growers interested in learning more about harvest, apple and pear conservation with regard to harvest maturity, storage, packing, etc.
According to Kupferman they are bringing in a number of guest speakers to talk on a variety of topics including a discussion on labor and an interesting talk from an Italian scientist, Dr. Angelo Zanella.
KUPFERMAN: A new system of monitoring CA storages and it essentially give the apples a microphone to speak to us and so when they become distressed about something they can talk through this microphone if you will and electronically let us know that maybe the oxygen is too low or their a bit cold or they need to have the CO2 or oxygen changed.
