Broken Immigration System Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Concerns are growing for farm workers and ag employers over the recent arrests of illegal immigrants across the country.Ben Tindall, Executive Director at Save Family Farming, says the fear factor among many of the workers is really high right now, but …
TINDALL … “We support the law. We want to be individuals that uphold the law. There is a right way and a wrong way to execute the law, and we do value coming to this country legally, following the right procedures and processes and doing it correctly.”
Tindall says there’s no question about that …
TINDALL … “But it’s the execution that has been kind of made in question. There’s a right and responsible way to enforce policy and there’s a reckless way that hinders and damages individuals and their livelihood and security. And unfortunately, this immigration policy, recently over the last month seems to be following that latter example of just reckless and somewhat of a ‘ready, fire, aim process’.”
We can celebrate that, Tindall says, but the workers aren’t the bad guys …
TINDALL … “The bad guys that are being arrested and deported are legit bad people that are causing harm and destruction to individuals in our country, and they need to be deported.”
Tune in tomorrow for why a broken immigration system is jeopardizing the future of farming in Washington and across the country.
