Apple Foundation winners! I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) 11th Annual Year of the Apple art contest presented by Dow AgroSciences has been awarded to a Cashmere, Washington high school student.
WITHERBEE: Alina Godfrey is the young lady from Cashmere who is the grand prize winner in this years' "Year of the Apple" Art Contest.
Jennifer Witherbee is the Executive Director of the Washington Apple Education Foundation.
WITHERBEE: The grand prize winner in the Year of the Apple contest receives a $1000 savings bond that can be used towards future educational expenses or to get some artistic supplies also, and she also received the opportunity to see her artwork on the Dow AgroSciences 2007 poster calendar.
Twelve Washington state students received a share of the $4500 in prize money, recognizing their artistic talents. The Year of the Apple selection committee chose these gifted artists from a competitive field of approximately 300+ entrees.
WITHERBEE: Her artwork this year is titled "Cameo" and it depicts a perfectly shaped Cameo apple. She utilized colored pencils to create her artwork this year.
The Year of the Apple art contest is open to all students in Washington State, grades K-12. Students may enter artwork in each of the four categories: Year of the Apple Poster Calendar, Holiday Card, Best Pear and Best Soft Fruit. That's today's Fruit Grower Report.
