With the Farm Bill extension expiring and the push for year round E15 sales, the National Corn Growers Association has advocated daily for American corn growers. Troy Schneider, a board member and a corn farmer from eastern Colorado, on the critical role of NCGA board members and their impact on the industry.

“Last month, we had 200 producers fly into Washington, DC, and we met with our congressional delegations in DC, and we just talked about the importance of it. They want to talk about how to re energize this economy and get it moving again. The fastest way to get this economy moving, in our mind, is a strong ag economy. You put the power in rural America. We will go out, we will buy things. We will purchase our products that we need. And it is a robust economy. It's a rising tide lifts all ships. at that point.”

When farmers speak directly to congressmen and women, they put a face to the industry, making it extremely relatable and easier to move things along. According to Schneider.

“It's having those one on one conversations as a board, as leaders of our organization, and bringing producers in that serve on committees.”

He says it's important to also relay how important agriculture is to the American economy to legislative staffers as well as USDA personnel.
