Golfing for education. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
The Washington State Horticulture Association is gearing up for their annual golf tournament. Lynette Smith is the Communications Coordinator for Hort.
SMITH: The Washington State Horticulture Association for the last 13 years, this is our 13th year, is having a golf tournament at the Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course on August 8th. All proceeds from the tournament support scholarships that are awarded to students in honor of past tree fruit industry leaders. Scholarships are awarded in memory of Gerald Nolan, Melvin Crowder, Jim Matson and Delmar Smith. All proceeds from the tournament actually fund scholarships in their names. So we really hope that anybody out there that's interested in golfing with us will join us and help by honoring our friends and peers by participating in the tournament that enables their memory to live on.
The scholarships are administered through the Washington Apple Education Foundation. Smith says there are still a few openings.
SMITH: The field is limited to 144 players which is about 36 teams and those teams are filling up pretty quick. Email us, give me a call at the Washington State Horticulture Association and sign up. We have little mailers we can send out to you as well. I'd also like to say thank you to our sponsors, Key Bank, Engelhard and Wilbur Ellis for being our headline sponsors this year as well as our hole sponsors and all of those people who are golfing because without all of us coming together to do this, this event would not be possible.
