I got a call from old friend, outdoorsman and conservationist JOSH MILLS asking me to let you folks know about an exciting event and opportunity. It's a drawing to win a world class bull elk hunt on the nature conservancy's legendary Zumwalt prairie preserve in north eastern Oregon. The winning HUNTER and up to two non-HUNTER guests we'll have the rare opportunity to experience a fully guided hunt for three days during Oregon's 2023 rifle elk season. Here is spokesperson Jimmy Flatt. Hunters of Color is a nonprofit aimed at getting people of color into hunting and conservation, and the organization was founded in 2019. To date, we've gotten over 1500 people a field, and that's in training events, educational events and hunt altogether. And so that's essentially what we do. And we're doing a fundraiser right now. Expand a little bit. Speaker1: On hunters of color. Are people of. Speaker2: Color not interested in hunting normally? It's not that we're not interested is that we are currently not participating. And so the most recent study that came out was in 2016 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that showed the only 3% of all license holders in the United States identified as people of color. And so with that being said, if hunting is supposed to be for everybody, if it's accessible to everybody, then why aren't our communities participating in hunting? We set out to answer those questions and to provide resources and pathways for folks to start to participate in hunting and conservation work along that path. We're getting people invested in this resource that we all care about. Hopefully, the goal is to then be able to answer the bigger questions that are coming up about land access, endangered species, and just have more tools in the tool chest. Speaker1: There's a drawing Saturday, March 18th, at Missoula County Fairgrounds.
