Wheat contest

As if we didn't know it already. Idaho is a great state for wheat production. It was a record setting year for the National Wheat Yield contest, which announced its 2022 winners. I wanted to know more about it, so I called my old friend Brittany Hurst Marchant from the Idaho Wheat Commission. “Every year, the National Wheat Foundation does a wheat yield contest, and it's just a fun thing to see who has the highest yield on their farm. So you have to choose ahead of time what section of your farm you are entering into the contest. And then at the end, after harvest, all of the results are tallied. And this year, Rylee Reynolds, an Idaho wheat grower, won the contest. He had a yield of 231 bushels per acre, which is huge. The previous record was 211 bushels per acre in 2018 and that was not in Idaho. So it's really great to be the state that gets to tag team off of his accomplishment and claim the Bin Buster for this year.” I guess it would be something of a sacrilege for me to say when it comes to wheat production in Idaho, we're in real high cotton. “Yeah. Some people might start throwing darts at you. Thanks, Brittany. And congratulations to Riley Reynolds.
