Have a good dog on your farm? Nominate them to be the 2023 Farm Dog of the Year!

With your Southeast Regional Ag News, I am Haylie Shipp. This is the Ag Information Network.

We are approaching the fifth year of the Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year Contest supported by Purina and the July 15th deadline for nominations is quickly approaching.

Along with the great recognition for your pooch, the grand prize winner also gets a year worth of Purina dog food, a feature in a professionally produced video, and $5,000 in prize money.

Along with focusing on the good they do for your operation, let’s talk about the good they do for you.

Scientific research insights from a collaboration between Mayo Clinic and Purina reveal that interacting with pets can provide health benefits. For example, after spending just 20 minutes with a dog, people experienced a significant increase in levels of oxytocin, a hormone that plays a role in moderating stress. This was also associated with a decrease in heart rate and an increase in self-reported sense of well-being. When you know, you know.

If you’re interested in nominating your dog, head to www.FB.org.

Your 2022 Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year? Well it’s a Border Collie named “Fit” who makes her home with Florida Farm Bureau member Cindy Deak.
