Eric Christenson Director of Marketing for Sun Mountain Lodge In Winthrop, Washington and I had a chat about what sounds like an absolutely fabulous fishing vacation. “They call it luxury on the edge of the wilderness. It is a beautiful lodge that is 112 rooms that is perched on a mountain with 360° views of the North Cascades and Patterson Lake. They have a four-star restaurant as well as a bar and grill so it offers a high end place to stay and play. They have cabins on Lake Patterson so if you have a family of kids and want to get out and boat or drag around some pop gear and catch trout, there are all kinds of things like that as well. There is ice fishing at some of the lakes in Winthrop during the winter. During the warmer months we get into the Methow River Trout fishing, there are lots of lakes. Sun Mountain Lodge manages a pay to play lake called Moccasin Lake. it is difficult to get on because of the requirements they have, they allow six fishermen a day and do everything they can to keep the fish as healthy as they can. What kind of fish are in the lake? Rainbows, browns, cutthroat and brook trout. Huge brook trout. They have aerators and fish feeders. It kind of ruins you. I have finished it a couple of times and they have 30 inch 10 pound rainbows. It’s amazing. There are also lakes around that are very abundant with mostly rainbows and tiger trout.
