Several years back I was heading into the Commodity Classic, which is happening this week in New Orleans, and we sat in on a presentation on food trends. At that point, the speaker had said, “I don’t know what they’re going to be called, but I think in the next year small hamburgers are going to become a thing.” Next year, introduce the slider trend. He was right on point.

Food trends are always fun to watch and right now the National Peanut Board says there are four new peanut product trends to take notice of:

#1 – Big launches from the big boys. We’re talking Skippy and Jif. We’re seeing things like protein enriched peanut butter, squeeze peanut butter, and no-added-sugar peanut butter.

#2 – Snacks are topping new product launches as far as peanuts are concerned. Kind is bringing a new snack to the freezer case. It is a frozen dark chocolate peanut butter bar.

#3 – We already talked about the big boys, but we are actually seeing store brands standing out and developing and launching new products with peanuts under their own labels. This year Target, HEB, and Aldi are among the most active.

#4 – Organic and natural are trending up.

Again, four new peanut product trends to watch according to the National Peanut Board.
