04/07/06 Pakistani delegation in Idaho; beanpole

Three government officials from Pakistan are visiting Idaho as part of a ten day American tour. There are private Pakistani buyers who took 99 thousand metric tons of US wheat this year but the public buying dried up years ago. This is a chance for Idaho and the Northwest to reopen the market says the Vice president of the Washington Wheat Commission Glen Squires especially with a new chairman for the Trading Corporation of Pakistan. SQUIRES "It will be a good opportunity for us to explain how the different buying procedures work and the type of product that he is able to import." The visitors from Pakistan will see port facilities in Lewiston and they'll stop in Spokane and Portland before the tour ends. A new study gives new meaning to the word beanpole. The study presented in San Francisco this week shows that adults who eat beans weigh about six and a half pounds less than adults who don't eat beans. In teenagers, the bean eaters weighed 7.3 pounds less than non-bean-eating teens. The Idaho Bean Commission says the data for the study came from the National Nutrition and Health Examination Survey.
