To help remind growers to break that link between mummy nuts and overwintering Naval orangeworm the Almond Board of California created a parody song, that when paired with a video, is sure to be an orchard smash!

Ashley Knoblauch is a communication specialist with the Almond Board of California, which hosts the mummy shake, video contest. It all can be done in the orchard showing the importance of getting those mummy nuts out of the trees----with the mummy shake music in the background

“These videos can be submitted on a smart phone. They are judged based on creatively and the enthusiasm,” noted Knoblauch.

“In 2018, the Haviland family submitted a video,” said Knoblauch. “David Haviland is a well-regarded UCANR farm advisor in the Kern County area. And his two sons made a video in which they dressed up in different superhero costumes. And they did really cool stuff showing your mummy's coming off the tree. It was wonderful. It was so creative,” noted Knoblauch.

“And then in 2019, the Scheel family, who farm almonds in the Modesto area, submitted a video with their daughter who is a wonderful dancer. And she did amazing things in the orchard, wrapped up like a mummy. She was very creative,” said Knoblauch

The video can be done and submitted any time between now and November 20th. For rules and additional information. Go to: https://www.almonds.com/almond-industry/industry-news/almond-board-california-mummy-shake-video-contest

You will see a sample winning video and get the information you need to submit a video. First place video will win a $500 Amazon gift card.
