Trevino says, you've got to stay on top of those water issues. “We worked very closely with the California Farm Bureau. They have traditionally taken lead on behalf of the agricultural industry on water issues. We partner with them on water issues, but of course, each industry has their unique set of issues,” Trevino said.
“Water Deliveries or allocations are huge. We've also been engaged in the California Water Portfolio. I think one of the basic arguments that we've come back to is just really looking at California and its overall water plan,” she said. “There are so many elements of it and you truly have to be an expert in water to understand all facets of water in the state.”
And those low water allocation such as this year’s 20%---- “ We’re very vocal on the water allocations. And in terms of pushing back, when they're announced or reduced, we have to be, as one of the largest agricultural industries in California.
And one of the big issues for water is the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.
“What we try to do is get our hands around SGMA and how SGMA is going to impact our industry,” Trevino noted.
