With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. The signing of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement is in the books and now we just wait for it take effect. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse is one of the many who spent a lot of time pushing for completion of the NAFTA replacement and was fortunate enough to be there for the ceremony …

NEWHOUSE … “And, a lot of effort by literally hundreds of people went into putting this thing together and I couldn’t be more delighted that we have finally gotten to this point. I think it is truly a momentous trade deal between three North American countries that will really move our economy forward in a big way.”

And, Newhouse says the USMCA will be especially important for agriculture here at home and around the country …

NEWHOUSE … “It means a lot for Washington state agriculture, but not just that, it means a lot for the whole country. And, increasing the number of American jobs in a big way, and so for all the benefits we’re going to see from that, like I said, it took too long for us to get here, but I’m happy that we’re here now and very excited about being able to move forward and realize the benefits of a new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada.”

So, now all that’s left undone is ratification in Canada? …

NEWHOUSE … “Yes, I think that’s happening even as we speak, they’re working on that right now.”

Canada began the ratification process two weeks ago. No word on how long it might take, but many expect it to happen soon.
