With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. Will ratification of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada-Agreement get delayed or derailed by the media frenzy over the impeachment inquiry into a phone conversation President Trump had with Ukrainian President Zelensky?

If you ask U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse about the overall feeling on Capitol Hill, he’s cautiously optimistic …

NEWHOUSE … “Nothing tells me that it’s going to be held up for political purposes. As this moves forward, that dynamic could change, but the fact of the matter is, if we’re looking at it politically, and not just policy-wise, there are a lot of new Democratic members who won in districts that President Trump carried and, politically I think, they need to be able to bring this home for their producers and their constituents as well.”

In the end, Newhouse says there’s no guarantees, but it would be in everyone’s best interest to forget politics and move the USMCA to a vote …

NEWHOUSE … “I think it’s more than likely, still, that we can get this done. I will be totally open and frank with you if I see something change on that, but at this point I still think that we can get it done. It’s, I think it’s ready to go now myself. It’s frustrating that we haven’t had the ability to vote on it yet, but my guess is that we can still get it done before the end of the year.”

In a recent statement, Newhouse says House Democrats and Speaker Pelosi have devolved the House into little more than a constant media spectacle. He adds their continued attacks on our nation’s presidency weaken our democracy and threaten our national security.
