With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. Yesterday, we told you about college scholarships offered by Washington's wine industry. Since 2002, the Washington Wine Growers Foundation has awarded over $263,000 to 185 students for education in viticulture and enology, and related majors.

The Foundations Katlyn Straub says there are three different kinds of scholarships ...

STRAUB ... "So, we have the Horse Heaven Hills Winegrower's Scholarship which was created by growers and vintners who really just love education and grape growing and wine production and so this, there's actually two scholarships of $3,000, which is larger this year. That's given to students who are residents of Benton, Yakima, or Klickitat counties."

She says there is also the Walter J. Clore Scholarship ...

STRAUB ... "So, the Foundation manages this scholarship, but it was established by the Washington Wine Growers Association in honor of Dr. Walter Clore who committed his life to grape research and just had several achievements in viticulture and enology. And so, the number of awards for that scholarship are determined annually for the scholarship applications that come in and they start at $1,000 each."

And finally, the Foundation Fund Scholarship ...

STRAUB ... "So, this is where I'm saying it's just so incredible to witness the generosity of the industry. These scholarships range from $2,000 to $10,000 and the fund was established as an endowment by the board of directors from the Foundation. So, there are several awards that are given under that and the Walter J. Clore scholarships."
