The Senate Agriculture Committee on Tuesday approved a bill aimed at helping the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) deal with its increasing expensive fire-fighting efforts and to improve forest management activities. The American Farm Bureau Federation applauded the Agriculture Committee's action. AFBF President Zippy Duvall said in a statement "Our nation's federal forests are facing "The poor health of our federal forests also threatens wildlife populations and neighboring non-federal lands, as well as the vitality of rural, forested communities across the country. A vibrant forest products industry helps diversify rural economies in ways that compliment ranching and agricultural operations. And on another note with immigration such a major issue in the presidential campaign. U.S. Representative Steve King, a Republican from Iowa recently shared his concerns about the Southern border.

KING:

The southern border itself is not just people coming over looking for a job or a better way of life but most certainly there are many that do. But 80 to 90 percent of the illegal drugs consumed in America come from or through Mexico. With that comes a lot of violence. The trade itself is violent. There's roughly a number that approaches 60 billion dollars in funds that are wired South of that border. Much of that is laundered drug money. We have a great big mess here.

KING says revamping immigration policy is the solution.
