I’m Susan Allen with the Fruit Grower Report. The stars aligned to create the Pink Lady Apple. Consumers love their pretty color, perfect size, crisp taste and charming logo. Christy Warnock Operations Manager for Pink Lady America shared the results of a recent consumer survey.

Warnock: Not surprising the sweet-tart flavor was the number one thing that people liked the most, followed by texture because it’s so dense and a lot of people love that crisp texture which also lends itself well for slicing, doesn’t brown as easily as other apples and does well in cooking. We thought it was interesting that some people chose the flowing heart logo as one of the things they liked best, in fact, 7% of people chose that as one of the things that they liked most about Pink Lady, we found that interesting that that came out on top with some consumers.

She said the survey also revealed the Pink Lady was a hit with children because of their sweet-tart candy-like taste.

Warnock: “In fact some parents say that is why they buy theses apples because their kids love them, and they are delicious. We’ve heard parents say this over and over again as quotes in these consumer surveys. One consumer said that they were “cute”! Now the Apple itself isn’t necessarily cuter than any other apple out there, but that flowing heart logo is what drives the eye to the Apple for some people.

Monday you’ll learn about Pink Lady’s new cousin.
