What are Idaho farmers doing this time of year? It really depends on the type of farm because it varies across the board. Everything from potatoes to wheat to specialty crops to see, but I would say uniformly at this time of the year, they are putting the final touches in the garage. They are fixing combines and trucks, getting all let equipment shipshape and ready to roll because when it dries out and they have two weeks of nice dry days and good temperatures, they will be out in the field getting ready to plant. The other thing is that many of these farmers and ranchers have already bought their diesel for the whole year. If you'll recall, about a month or month and a half ago, the fuel prices were extremely low. They were locking in their fuel prices way back then so that when they hit Memorial Day when fuel prices skyrocket, they have already locked in and bought their fuel. The same applies with fertilizer and seed. A lot of them have already bought and locked in those prices for the whole year. They try to buy things at those times of year when it is the cheapest. This is because they are operating on such a thin margin and you have to be smart if you're going to survive.
