Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 5,300 tons of hay trade. Compared to last test week two weeks ago premium alfalfa and export alfalfa was steady. Premium alfalfa tarped was $175. Good alfalfa for export was $147 to $150. Timothy grass premium for export market was $140. Good and premium Timothy grass for export $140 delivered.
In Idaho trade was generally steady compared to Mid-December prices. Trade turned active last week as some producers tied first and third cuttings together in order to get it sold. Demand was moderate. Mid square bales of alfalfa rated fair to good that was tarped sold between $70 and $120 per ton. Mid-square bales of wheat straw rated good sold for $60 per ton
In Oregon, trade generally steady compared to Mid-December prices. The recent cold snap has increased sales. In Central Oregon orchard grass large square bales rated fair sold for $150 per ton and Alfalfa large squares rated good sold for $130 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large square bales of alfalfa rated premium sold for $190 a ton. In Klamath Basin, large squares of premium alfalfa sold for $150 a ton and small squares of orchard grass rated premium sold for $280 a ton. In Lake County large square of supreme alfalfa sold for $220. In Harney County there were no new sales confirmed.
