Precision Farming Expo

Precision Farming Expo

Precision Farming Expo. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

2016 may very well be the year of Drones, Droids, Data & Dirt. At least that's the title of this year's Precision Farming Expo being held in Kennewick today and tomorrow.. Jeff Lorton, the show producer tells us what to expect.

LORTON: The Precision Farming Expo really is the only gathering like it on the west coast. It's an opportunity for growers to meet with advanced agricultural technology researchers, innovators, policymakers.

Major companies like Yamaha and John Deere will be featuring new technology as well as a large group of small tech companies all focused on the ag industry. There will also be a number of discussions on technology.

LORTON: We're in a very deep partnership with Washington State University and WSU has nine panel, everything from investing in ag tech, workforce development, your own business development plus we're covering remote sensing being able to take a look at your crops in high resolution from a low altitude from an unmanned vehicle.

The show has been sold out.

LORTON: We are digitizing agriculture and it's the last human endeavor to be digitized. There's an entirely new generation of American farmer and they want technology, they want precision, they want efficiency. This has created a whole industry to serve them so it's not just about building better tractors or combines or planters. You know, Greg, growers grow two things now. They grow the crops that people eat and they grow data. How that data is handled, who owns it, how do you manage it, how do you get value out of that over time that's something that growers are just now discovering

And that's Washington Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
