Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had about 4900 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last Friday, premium alfalfa and export alfalfa steady in a light pre-holiday test. Trade remains slow and demand remains light as most interests are out of the market til after the ri new year. Premium to supreme dairy sold at $210 at the stack and that was tarped. Export hay sold at $145 at the stack. Fair alfalfa sold from $120 to $130. Small square alfalfa for the retail/stable market sold at $260 to $265. Timothy grass sold at $200 on the premium that was tarped.”
In Idaho trade was slow last week with continued light demand. Some interest was noted last week from California buyers. Most interests are now awaiting until after the first of the year. Some interest was noted last week from Northwest exports. Mid-square bales fair to good alfalfa tarped sold for $75 per ton. Wheat Straw mid-square bales rated good sold between $45 and $55 a ton.
In Oregon, the prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. The upcoming holidays have slowed hay sales. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated premium sold from $240 to $270 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Eastern Oregon large squares of premium alfalfa organic sold for $190 per ton. In Klamath Basin premium large square alfalfa bales sold between $170 and $180 per ton. In Harney County, large premium squares of Timothy sold for $140 a ton.
