Getting Help with the Survey

Getting Help with the Survey. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

The 2014 Agricultural Peak Employment Wage and Practices Survey's have arrived. The survey comes as a hand stamped individual letter from Washington State University (WSU) Social and Economic Sciences Research Center. Roxana Macias, Program Manager for wafla explains.

MACIAS: The goal is to establish prevailing wages and prevailing practices in agriculture and those prevailing are used for H-2A but it doesn't only dictate how H-2A is run, it would be any grower or user of the resources at like WorkSource to find labor or anything like that that would be held to this standards that this survey deems are necessary.

You can get guidance on the survey through wafla

MACIAS: The reason that we're so concerned about it is because when you read it, it's really skewed. So we're concerned that if our members or just people in the ag industry don't understand it, don't understand really what the questions are asking and don't understand how they will be applied it'll really make it hard to continue using the H-2A program. I mean, there's some questions that if you answer yes you're going to be bound to providing housing for families for seasonal workers.

A recent webinar was held regarding the survey and it's available on their website plus more guidance at wafla.org.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
