Cider Apple Workshop

Cider Apple Workshop

Cider Apple Workshop. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

If you haven't tried some of the northwests cider you are missing out on something very unique. But great cider takes great apples. Sherrye Wyatt, executive director for the Northwest Cider Association says they have an opportunity for any who wants to learn about growing great cider apples.

WYATT: It's the first workshop we've ever done in Eastern Washington that's specifically focused on cider apples and cider apple growing and orcharding. We're going to have a couple of great experts there. Gary Moulton, he's a pomologist and he's very experienced in cider and perry growing so he;ll be there presenting a lot of critical issues talking about cider and perry varietals, soil, planting, pest control, grafting.

Wyatt talks about who should be attending this workshop.

WYATT: It is targeted at people who are already growing apples and pears or people who are about to get into that industry and are looking for some other options than what they might typically think of.

You need to register for the workshop and there is a $95 fee that includes lunch.

WYATT: There's an opportunity to also go to a field trip following the workshop and we'll be at Snowdrift Cidery and their orchards in East Wenatchee and they're just such a great place to again, talk to more experts but also taste some ciders right there from the trees that grew the fruit that's in the glass.
