Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had 8,300 tons of hay trade last week. Compared to last Friday, premium dairy and export alfalfa steady to weak. Trade slow to moderate, with light to moderate demand. Timothy hay was steady. Premium alfalfa sold from $170 to $200 per ton on large square bales. Small square retail hay good to premium alfalfa sold for $190 to $220. Orchard grass small square bales for retail and stable market sold for $250 to $275. Timothy grass for export market on large square bales good to premium sold $155 to $165.
In Idaho compared to previous week, premium and good Alfalfa continues to be weak. Demand was light to moderate with heavy supplies of feeder hay. Alfalfa large square bales rated premium sold between $150 to $160 per ton. Alfalfa small squares rated premium sold for $220 per ton for retail and stable market.
In Oregon, trade activity remained generally steady in comparison to the previous week. In Central Oregon, small square bales of alfalfa rated supreme were sold for $250. In Eastern Oregon supreme large square bales of alfalfa sold for $210 per ton. Harney County reported premium large square alfalfa sold for $210 per ton. In Klamath Basin supreme small square alfalfa sold for $230 per ton.
