Art Aylesworth is the owner of Peetz Fishing Reels up on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. His product is spectacular. "A Russian immigrant named Boris Peetz came to Vancouver Island to try and capitalize on the gold rush that was going on. He got here just towards the end of it, he was a jeweler and got involved in the local fishing community. At the time there wasn't actually a reel that was suitable for salmon and halibut, that was back in the early 1900s, and he took a smaller Nottingham reel out of Europe that was used for smaller fish and started to work on ideas so that he could fish the deep waters, sometimes two or 300 feet deep. Boris was a jeweler and as a result he was a real fine craftsmen, tool and die maker and jig maker and he was a clever guy. He started to make fishing reels and with lots of trial and error, eventually became the standard real here for decades. As I look at the picture on your website, the reel almost looks like a piece of jewelry, it looks like a watch. They are all handcrafted, it is artisan type work. They are still made today with the same craftsmanship and the same approach. If you look at the 5 inch Evolution reel on our website, it is a one-way drag, single action with beautiful drag control, beautiful functionality. The hand carved series is exactly that reel but instead of having a laser fish and our logo on the face, it has all been hand carved by a member of the legendary Hunt family of native carvers.
