Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Weekly Regional Hay Market Update

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last Friday
Sanders: “We had 4,900 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last Friday, premium alfalfa was weak in a light test. Trade is slow for both export and domestic as both have adequate supplies. Dairies report lower milk prices after all the discounts they receive for the raw product. Alfalfa premium large squares $205 to $210. Mid square alfalfa for export fair and good quality at $180. Alfalfa small square for retail/stable at $260. Timothy grass for export premium $190 to $205.
In Idaho compared to previous week, good Alfalfa was steady in a light test. Trade slow to moderate with a very light demand on low quality supplies. Alfalfa large square rated good with some rain damage sold for $130.71 per ton and good large square alfalfa that had been tarped sold for $160.00
In Oregon, compared to previous week, prices trended generally steady compared to the same quality the previous week. Trade activity increased drastically last week, which was attributed to the cooler weather. In Central Oregon large alfalfa bales rated good sold at $180 per ton. In Eastern Oregon supreme large square bales of alfalfa sold for $200 per ton. Harney County reported premium/supreme large square alfalfa sold for $190 per ton. In Klamath Basin fair to good large square alfalfa sold for $160 per ton.
