Wine Science Center Grand Opening

Wine Science Center Grand Opening. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The last time I was at WSU’s Wine Science Center was when they officially broke ground for the building. Now the machinery and the contractors have finished their work. Yesterday, on a warm spring afternoon, the new Wine Science Center at Washington State University Tri-Cities had its official grand opening. Attended by a large groups of dignitaries and wine industry leaders the center will be a state-of-the-art research and teaching winery. Dr. Thomas Henick-Kling, Director of Viticulture & Enology at WSU is excited about the Wine Science Center.

HENICK-KLING: The Wine Science Center right here is going to be a world class facility. Much needed space for our researchers and our graduates and graduate students. And a place for the industry in the Pacific Northwest. Our facilities in Prosser and Pullman will continue to be an integral part of our statewide research, teaching and extension efforts.

The 40,000-square-foot facility is quite eye-catching with a glass atrium designed to look like half of a wine barrel it will also feature everything necessary for students to create world class wines while studying every aspect of the process. The first classes will be held in the new building beginning this fall.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
