Have You Heard About the FDA's Report on Milk Residues?

It always seems to amaze me how the mainstream media always jumps to headline stories that show negativism but you have to look harder to find the positive. Well last week there was some very positive news announced for the U.S. dairy industry and food safety. I don’t believe it was picked up by many media outlets — FDA released their milk residue study and found that more than 99 percent of the samples tested were free of antibiotic residues.
Washington State Dairy Federation Director of Policy and Government Affairs Jay Gordon shares more about the positive results.
Gordon: “I viewed the results of the FDA had on the milk supply as great. Yea, there is a little bit of work to do — it is a very small amount. We have to look at all the numbers and go to work on producers and say, ‘Guys you can’t be using stuff off-label.” It was a minuscule percentage of the population. The other thing that was stunning was — if I’m not mistaken — when you look at the safeguards in place zero detect in any retail milk— that was just amazing. I was so pleased. The safeguards are in place on the farm, at the milk plants to test and retest and retest this milk before it ever gets into a retail container. 100 percent perfect. When I say the zero percent detect in retail milk — I thought, Nice Job!”
