Improve Mechanized Irrigation System's Water Application Efficiency

Welcome to the Irrigation Minute brought to you by Reinke. Today we are talking with Reinke Director of Regional Sales Ken Goodall about how to improve your mechanized irrigation system’s water application efficiency. He says the first step is examining your pump.
Goodall: “So you need to verify your pump and you need maybe do a test on it to be sure that it is still flowing what it is rated at and it is still meeting the pressure requirements that it was designed for. So the sprinkler package is all designed around a flow, and a rate and a pressure so making sure that your pump can produce that is critical.”
Goodall explains the next step
Goodall: “You need to make sure that your sprinkler package is in good order. Some guys think that a sprinkler package lasts for a life time. A sprinkler package is usually good for about 7 to 10 years especially if you have something with drops. If your sprinkler package is older than 7 years, you ought look at it and take it to your local dealer and have him test things like the regulator. Have him come out and evaluate how well your sprinkler package is performing at this point in time. Because — again — the sprinkler package is the most important part of an irrigation system. If isn’t working right then the whole crop is getting watered right.”
He emphasizes the importance of making sure that your system is well serviced and maintained to ensure that it stays as efficient as possible.
