Wheat Academy Offers Hands-on Learning

Wheat growers and crop consultants are invited to Washington State University Cooperative Extension’s first ever Wheat Academy which will held December 16-17 in Pullman.
WSU Cooperative Extension Small Grains and Research Scientist Dr. Drew Lyon shares more about the objective of this learning event.
Lyon: “We hope to go more in depth than we typically do in a lot of the extension meetings. And the purpose is to try and get people to understand the science behind some of the recommendations and some of the things we do. So rather than glossing over, we hope to dive into it a little deeper than we normally do.”
Registration is $100 and is limited 60 participants. Experts from WSU, USDA, Oregon State University and more will lead intensive, 75-minute sessions of comprehensive, hands-on learning. He continues with the topics of the available sessions.
Lyon: “We have topics ranging from biology and management of wireworms in cereals to wheat development and growth; end-use quality of PNW wheat; micronutrient dynamics in soils and plants; soil acidity; virus; diseases. So we have a range of pests and soil and plant development issues that people can come and learn about.”
Dr. Lyon adds that Washington and Idaho pesticide recertification credits and certified crop advisor credits will be available.
