National Farm-to-School Network Celebrates This Month

Last week we learned more about the National Farm to School Network and the wealth of resources it provides for those involved or looking to become involved in working in farm to school programs. October is National Farm to School month and across the country many events are happening.
The National Farm to School Network’s Communications Manager Chelsey Simpson shares more details
Simpson: “A lot of individual communities and schools are planning things to celebrate National Farm to School Month. For example, schools might be hosting a special Local Food Day in their cafeteria and they may be featuring one local product or in some cases they may be featuring a whole menu of local products and showcasing those. And in a lot of cases inviting farmers into their cafeterias and classrooms to meet kids and talk to them about agriculture and the food they grow. That is just one example. Other schools are inviting elected officials into their classrooms; hosting harvest days in their school garden; art contests related to farm to school. There is just really a lot going on.
Simpson says that the National Farm to School Network is sponsoring a contest this month.
Simpson: “If you visit our website and you sign up to be a member or you tell us a little bit about your farm to school project through our share form. You will be entered in a drawing to win a $1,000 for a farm to school project in your community. Then we also have some garden-related tool kit prizes as well.”
