Yesterday we learned about a record kokanee which was caught in North Carolina of all places. It turns out that Riffe Lake in Washington State has got some pretty good silvers as well. So I called up sales associate Keith McDowell at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Puyallup, Washington to get his advice about what to use if one was inclined to fish Riffe. He is so knowledgeable that his advice probably applies to anybody going after Silvers. "We want a soft rod, any of the kokanee rods we sell. As far as gear and tackle goes, Bajama Mama from Rocky Mountain Tackle works real well, you can either run a standard wedding ring or you can use the Rocky Mountain Tackle Assassin lures, you would want to tip them with salad shrimp or, we now carry at this location, some mini cured prawns that are either dyed red or pink. The guys will tip the front hook with that and the back hook with one to two maggots. You're going to troll slow between three quarters of a mile per hour may be up to a mile and a half, it's just going to vary a little bit, obviously the fish will tell you what they want so you want to play with that. Other than that, that's kind of the 101 basics.
