Since its establishment in 2009, Idaho Wine Month—which takes place in June—has been growing in popularity. This annual event is a time to reflect on how the Idaho wine industry has grown, and encourage residents and visitors alike to take special trips out to tasting rooms and pop the cork on old favorites and new finds. Over the past few years Idaho has emerged as a major wine-producing state. With the long, hot days available to growers and the state's rich, volcanic soil, grapes are growing and being made into award-winning wines. In this past year alone, Idaho's outstanding wines have gained national recognition from publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, The Washington Times, Wine Economist and The Washington Post.  I chatted with Moya Shatz about all of the excitement over wine in Idaho. "I was just on Facebook about 10 minutes ago, there are several different restaurants doing special features and things like Idaho wines by the glass. It is pretty exciting to see the community get behind it. All in downtown Boise we have street pole flags that say June is Idaho Wine month so we are having a lot of fun. I am not a wine connoisseur, I enjoy it but I am a beer drinker and I love the fact that they have all of these local microbreweries in Idaho such as Payette and Snake River. It gives me choices other than Bud light. Exactly."
