Grain Markets Down, Cattle Markets Up Friday

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for May 19, 2014.

USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders shares an update of the region’s last week’s cattle markets.

Sanders: “At the auctions this week, it was kinda light except for stocker cattle — guys trying to fill up their pasture needs for this summer. Things got pretty high out there — 6-weights all the way up to 2.20 for a few head and to 2.10 for the regular 6-weights going to grass. On the direct cattle with the corn markets and grain markets going lower on the futures market — everybody got bullish on it and are expecting to get $2 on their 600 to 650 weight calves for fall delivery. Then 850 to 900 pounders sold all all the way up to $171 this week for current delivery.”
