WA 38 Drawing. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Today is the day for apple producers interested in possibly growing the new WA 38 apple developed by WSU to see if they will be chosen.. The Ag Network's KayDee Gilkey has more.

GILKEY: Washington State University is holding a random drawing beginning today to distribute WA 38 apple trees to Washington growers will include a small number of trees available in 2016, with the remainder available in 2017. The drawing will be a two-tiered process. Tier 1 will consist of approximately 12 lots of between 3,000 and 5,000 trees each. Tier 2 will consist of approximately 12 lots of up to 20,000 trees each. The first two, randomly selected growers in Tier 2 will have first right of refusal for the 2016 trees. WSU is hosting two informational meetings for growers interested in learning more about WA 38 and the drawing:

April 2 - Confluence Technology Center, Wenatchee, Wash., from 2-4 p.m.?April 3 - Hilton Garden Inn, Yakima, Wash., from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
