In a recent ag information network conference call, Susan Allen made a great suggestion regarding doing a lot more reporting on the statistics involved with beef consumption. We know that the prices have gotten pretty high and that is a good thing for the industry. Not only do consumers want beef, they want good beef and the demand for quality beef is no consumer fad - in fact - it continues to gain momentum. Larry Corah of Certified Angus Beef explains some of the reasons behind the trend and how cattlemen can benefit. "As we look at the total growth of the certified Angus beef program we are going to close out records at about 865,000,000 pounds. That is a growth of about 54,000,000 pounds and from a percentage standpoint, that is right around the 6% range. That’s an amazing growth considering all the factors going on in the industry. Because of cattle numbers and because of a lot of things going on in the industry including price of product, we were very concerned about what might happen in terms of the growth of the Angus beef program.” Not to worry. The Certified Angus Beef brand has set consecutive records for the last seven years - and Corah says that signs point toward sustaining that trend in the years to come
