All about the Big Hole River. Our tireless correspondent Josh Mills called me the other day with something of a revelation. There is a beautiful river out here in the West that is pretty much the glowing example of what a collaborative effort among ranchers, fishermen, water rights holders that are coming together and trying to preserve something for the usurer and that is the Big Hole River and the committee is the Big Hole Watershed Committee. Their web site is BHWC.org. It is one of the only rivers with a river population of self sustaining grayling. It all comes from the need for stake holders and people that believe in and love the Big Hole, everybody has to play together. So the Big Hole Watershed Committee is coming together to make sure that the resource stays intact. It is the only river system in the lower 48 that has self sustaining grayling. It used to be a lot more but many have become extinct. In 1988 the river ran dry for 35 straight days due to drought and the need for water by a farmers around it. This is a great organization and I strongly encourage you to check them out. BHWC.org, if you have ever been to the Big Hole you will understand the greatness that is this river. The salmon fly hatch can be epic.
