Westside Fruit Workshop

Westside Fruit Workshop

Westside Fruit Workshop. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

A two-part workshop, “Orcharding on the Westside” is coming up at the end of this month at the Washington State University Snohomish County Extension Cougar Auditorium in Everett. Drew Corbin with WSU explains.

CORBIN: Most people don’t think we can grow fruit on the westside. That’s probably due to a lot of the historical disease pressure that we’ve had just due to our climate but there are quite a few varieties that are suited well for western Washington growing and cultural techniques that are really important for anyone attempting it to learn.

Westside tree fruit expert Gary Moulton will discuss a number of best management practices.

CORBIN: Gary Moulton basically - he did write the book on - the fruit handbook for western Washington where they talk about varieties and cultural practices. That’s where the rubber hits the road as far as successful production of tree fruit in western Washington and pruning is a big, big part of that.

Cost is $60 per person and enrollment is limited.

CORBIN: You can go either online through Brown Paper tickets or you can contact our office directly and either mail in or just stop in and fill out a registration.
