Seattle Lamb Jam Highlights Lamb Industry

Now in its fifth year --- Lamb Jam Tour happens four times a year in one of five target consumer markets across the country.

American Lamb Board’s Executive Director Megan Wortman explains the why behind the creation of this event which happens in five large consumer markets -- two of which Portland and Seattle -- together are considered the Pacific Northwest. Seattle’s Lamb Jam Tour will happen on Sunday, November third.

Worten: “The Lamb Jam was designed -- we know that lots of consumers have never had the opportunity to try lamb. Every time we do consumer research we get about 30 to 40 percent have never even tried it. Even those who have and love it still it is considered once or twice a year for special occasions. The reason being we get most often is, ‘It’s just not on my radar. I don’t think about.’ So we created this series of events to just build excitement and momentum amongst chefs in the market. Obviously, consumers attend. We pull in the food media to come judge at the event. We bring in local lamb producers in the market to actually have access to talking directly to consumers and chefs about how we raise lamb, where it is available - at farmers markets, or at restaurants or grocery stores. It’s been a really cool way to bring together all the pieces of the pie to celebrate all things lamb.”
