Passing it down. Long time friend of the show, much longer time avid fly fisherman and tremendously talented wildlife artist Tom Dean who owns Milo Creek Carvings Fine Art in Great Falls, Montana sent me an email that started with "Hi David, Hope the summer has been great for you!  We've been very busy up here this summer and have had a chance to do some fly fishing with my son on the Smith River....it's been wonderful!! It had been a while since I talked to Tom so I called him up and asked him to expand on his flyfishing adventures with his son. "This year we spent a ton of time up at the cabin which is on the Smith River and McAllen is 14 and he did such a fantastic job, he is like a fishing machine, he has surpassed me as far as fly fishing but we did well. The river was low, hot lot of brown trout in the, caught a lot of brown trout, a couple in the 21 inch range which was really awesome, it was a great fly fishing summer. Didn't get a chance to get out on the Missouri but that will be this fall so that will be good. Do you ever draw inspiration when your son pulls in a cutthroat or a brown, does it give you some ideas and inspiration for your art? Absolutely David. It is always kind of fun to do the R & D and it's always more fun to do the fishing with your children. It is a huge inspiration to see the excitement in their eyes and feel the warmth in your heart to see that your children are passing on that new generation of fly fisherman.
