8-28 IAN Chipotle
Wyatt Prescott, Executive Director of the Idaho Cattlemen’s Association recently went on a justifiable rant saying that Chipotle is not a friend of protein producers. He said that some of you may remember watching last year’s Grammy awards when the infamous anti-factory farming advertisement, sponsored by Chipotle, was aired. The campaign, called food with integrity, implied that food not organically and locally raised or family produced is bad for your health and the planet. With such an anti-ag agenda, it should come as no surprise that the fast food chain is at it again. Recently, Chipotle Mexican Grill, known for its use of organic ingredients and naturally raised meat, announced that it’s making major strides toward leaving the fast food industry into vegan territory. Chipotle Stores throughout the Pacific Northwest will begin selling Sofritas which are shredded, organic tofu that is braised with chipotle chiles and roasted poblanos and served in burritos, tacos or bowls. Here’s Wyatt: “They just continue to make decisions that are not ag-friendly. They began serving a vegan menu item which throws it into the animal ag industry’s face. They are facts are completely inaccurate. They do not recognize the sustainable elements that using antibiotics produce so our feedlots and for the entire industry and world are key players that continue our ability to feed our growing population.”
