Panera Bread's EZ Chicken Marketing Campaign Misguided

For anyone who follows what goes on in the Twittersphere, last week was all about Plucking EZ Chicken. Have I lost you? ??Here is more detail, Panera Bread -- with franchises located around Portland and Seattle -- has a new marketing campaign which promotes anti-biotic free chicken. Interesting, huh -- since ALL meat sold retail is regulated by USDA to be anti-biotic free.
So in addition to crowing about their anti-biotic-free chicken, Panera’s new marketing campaign implies that those farmers who use anti-biotics are taking the easy way out or as some social media agvocates have said, Panera is implying that farmers are lazy.
Wisconsin dairy farmer and agvocate Carrie Mess wrote a letter to Panera Bread via her blog and tweeted about it. Bringing the issue to many farmers and ranchers’ attention.
Oregon Agvocate Brenda Frketich a hazelnut and grass seed farmer, also posted a blog about this issue at nuttygrass.com. She shares more.
Frketich: “To say that they sell anti-biotic free chicken, --when the reality is that ALL meat sold for consumer use is anti-biotic free and has passed all these tests that are done to meat in the U.S. And that sort of fear that our food supply is not safe is really just misinformation for people. For me, granted I’m not an animal farmer or rancher, but it really kind of spoke to me in that this is the kind of fear marketing that we are trying to stop and trying to get some good information out there and not encourage this kind of misinformation.”
