Sunrise Research Orchard Field Day

Sunrise Research Orchard Field Day

Sunrise Research Orchard Field Day. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

It’s time again for the Sunrise Research Orchard Field Day. This year will have some extra special events you won’t want to miss. The Ag Networks Lacy Gray has more.

GRAY: The new Washington State University endowed chair in tree fruit physiology and management, Stefano Musacchi, will meet growers and others in Washington's tree fruit industry during this years event. It will also be an opportunity for growers to meet Desmond Layne, who became WSU tree fruit extension program leader at the center on Feb. 1, said Jay Brunner, center director. Besides hearing from these two new tree fruit researchers, Kate Evans, the WSU apple breeder at the center, will give an update on the new WA 38 apple variety and the breeding program.

The field day starts at 5 p.m. southeast of Rock Island, on Aug. 7 but will be preceded by two workshops at 3 p.m. One is on weed management and the other is on enhancing biological control of pests. Sampling techniques will be demonstrated and participants will practice identification skills. A number of other updates will be given during the event including thinning...delivery of pesticide methods and replant disease. The field day will conclude with a 6:30 p.m. dinner. For more details, contact WSU.
