OCA Centennial

OCA Centennial

Welcome to Open Range, I’m KayDee Gilkey. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks KayDee. The Oregon Cattleman’s Association has been around since 1913 and it’s time to celebrate that historic mark. Cheryl Martin is the OCA Centennial Chair and talks about the cattle industry in Oregon..

MARTIN: In our area the climate is not conducive to a lot of the growing kinds of things that other states have so cattle is huge. We have a lot of rangeland that is only usable by the cattle industry. Our cattle dollars we figure turn over about seven times in a community. We are a huge employer of folks in our area. The businesses in our area are supported by the ag industry.

The OCA Centennial gets underway this Friday with a whole slate of events including a parade and all kinds of events highlighting the history of cattle in the area...and of course Baxter Black will bring his insight on Saturday evening.

MARTIN: You know the people in our industry are; they’re just wonderful. They’re just basic people that know the reality of things and that they’re used to working in the elements and having to buck up and pushing a little harder to get something done and they’re good honest people.

Visit ORCattle.com for details. I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
