Sustainable Ag and Energy Interactive Learning Center Has Grand Opening

If you have ever driven Oregon’s Interstate 84 across the state, you’ve most likely noticed all the buildings and activity in Morrow County’s Boardman. On June 1 and 2nd, the new Sustainable Agriculture and Energy or SAGE Center is having its Grand Opening and admittance is free for the event.

The SAGE Center was developed by the Port of Morrow to tell the story of the regions history, agriculture, industries, energy production, sustainability practices, and transportation infrastructure. SAGE Center Manager Kalie Davis explains the instrumental part the Port played in making this $7 million interactive learning center a reality.

Davis: “The way we made it happen was the Port knew it was important to tell the story and so they are the ones that decided to make the investment. We are talking about all these different industries but the Port is the one that made sure the money was there to build all these exhibits.”

Hands-on interactive exhibits will feature the sophisticated technologies used by growers and the related industries at the Port of Morrow. Davis says the engaging exhibits help all ages learn.

Davis: “Just educating people about food production in the region. Biofuels, biochemicals, hydropower, wind energy all those important things that aren’t always talked about in school and a lot of people don’t know why power costs in this region are so low. So educating them that about the dams and the importance of the dams.”

The Grand Opening of the SAGE Center will be the first weekend in June.
