National Day of the Cowboy

National Day of the Cowboy

National Day of the Cowboy. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

We have had several conversations regarding the ground roots effort to get a national day recognizing the cowboy and there are a lot of people on board. Bethany Braley is the Executive Director for the National Day of the Cowboy and has been having some success on the state level. Arizona, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida are all on the verge of passing a state resolution in perpetuity...or permanently. Here in the northwest we are lagging behind. That is until Washington State Senator Sharon Brown took my call and immediately jumped on the stagecoach.

BROWN: I jumped on this because this is something that is important to me especially because of the importance that cowboys are to our district. And cowboys and cowgirls are a very integral part still today of our district and our agriculture and just our values and so it was important to me that we get this out there and as soon as I put it out it just gained lots and lots of traction.

Senator Brown talks about the resolution.

BROWN: On April 11th we are going to be doing a Senate Resolution which I’ve sponsored which is honoring National Day of the Cowboy. We’re going to be doing it in conjunction with Beef Day here on the hill which will be very exciting because that’s the day when the beef producers come and flip burgers on the hill.

More on this as we get closer.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
