A dairyman saved our bacon.

My boss, Kelly Allen, and I were driving on the freeway to the potato meeting in Pocatello last week. I am going to take total blame for this incident because of my riveting conversation skills. Kelly and I were both working out the problems of the world, to say nothing of potatoes, when all of a sudden the pickup we were in lurched a little bit and started to slow down. Kelly instantly realized that we had run out of diesel fuel, turned the engine off immediately and pulled over to the side of the road. We were in the middle of nowhere, and Kelly  had recently canceled his AAA policy because he never used it. Now what said we? We were late for a meeting. Kelly looked over to his right, and on the service road next to the freeway,  there was a barn. Kelly said he thought it was a dairy and thought there might be somebody there that might have diesel. he walked over and 10 min. later, he walked back with a 5 gallon can of diesel and Greg Anderson, owner of Seagull Bay Dairy. Greg was a true Savior. Not only did he give us fuel, but he opened the hood, knowing that there would be an air lock and fuel would not get to the engine. He  found a little hand pump next to the fuel pump, opened the fuel line, hand pumped until fuel started coming out, hooked it back up and we were on our way. I thought it would be nice if I called Greg to thank  him.  “You are a tribute to all dairymen. Not only did you give us fuel, but you served as an excellent mechanic. I’m very glad to do that for you. I am next to the freeway and help a lot of folks and I don’t mind. Well I can’t tell you how profoundly we thank you.”
