National Events Month

National Events Month

October is a very popular “National Event Month”. There are over sixty events observed during this calendar month; Better Breakfast Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, National Pork and Chicken Month, and one of my favorites, Mom & Apple Pie Month. October certainly has a full dance card. The list of events is nothing if not eclectic, and in some instances downright weird - for heaven’s sake, Hug a Texas Chef Month! Lots of countries around the world adopt particular causes during specific calendar months, but the U.S. has a tendency to go just a wee bit overboard when it comes to creating national month events. Perhaps it’s our penchant for trying to be politically correct. We certainly don’t want it to appear that anyone has been overlooked, or ostracized. This has certainly led to a broad list to choose from, but just because something has been designated as a national month event doesn’t mean you have to observe it. Though I might enjoy partaking in National Dessert Month, there is no way anyone is going to get me on a pair of roller skates in this late stage of the game.
